Privacy Policy Overview

This Privacy Policy covers Dollar Tree’s customer facing operations in the United States and Canada, and applies to the Personal Information Dollar Tree obtains in various contexts, both online and offline, including when you access or use our website (our “Site”), products; or any other applications or services that link to this Privacy Policy (collectively, the “Services”); visit us in our stores; communicate with us; shop with our third-party partners; engage with us on social media, or participate in any of our programs or events. We may also obtain Personal Information from third-party and publicly available sources, as further described below.

Directly from You

We collect Personal Information you provide, such as when you make a purchase, register for an account or create a profile, sign up for our Rewards Program, contact us, respond to a survey, RSVP for an event, interact with us in store (including in-store digital experiences), participate in a sweepstakes, contest, or other similar campaign or promotion, respond to a survey, or sign up to receive emails, text messages, and/or postal mailings.

Using Cookies and Other Automatic Data Collection Technologies

When you visit our Sites, open or click on emails we send you, interact with our mobile applications, or interact with our advertisements, we or third parties we work with automatically collect certain information using technologies such as cookies, web beacons, clear GIF, pixels, internet tags, web server logs, and other data collection tools. Through In-Store and Other Offline Technologies

In some cases, we record customer service calls for quality assurance. We also use Closed Circuit Television or CCTV in our stores for safety, security, fraud, loss prevention, and operational purposes.

From Our Third-Party Partners

We obtain information from third parties that we have partnered with. Additionally, if you have given Dollar Tree permission to store your Payment Information, your credit card issuer may provide us with updated Payment Information (including credit card number and expiration date) in connection with the credit card issuer’s account updater service.

From Social Media Platforms and Networks

If you interact with us on social media or use features, such as plugins, widgets, or other tools made available by social media platforms or networks (including Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Google, YouTube, and Pinterest) in connection with our Sites, we collect information that you share with us, or that the social media platforms share with us. From Other Sources

We may obtain information about you from other sources, such as data analytics providers, marketing or advertising service providers, fraud prevention service providers, vendors that provide services on our behalf, or publicly available sources. We also create information about you based on our analysis of the information we have collected from you.

If you do not provide us with certain Personal Information, we may not be able to fulfill the requested purpose of collection, such as to respond to your queries or request for customer service or to provide the full functionality of our Site to you. However, unless otherwise specified, not providing your Personal Information will not result in legal or other consequences to you.

Although the table above describes our primary purpose in collecting your Personal Information, in many situations we have more than one purpose. For example, if you complete an online purchase, we collect your information to perform our contract with you, but we also maintain your information after your transaction is complete so that we can quickly and easily respond to any questions about your order. As a result, our collection and processing of your Personal Information may be based in different contexts, including with your consent, our need to perform a contract, our obligations under law, and/or our general interest in conducting our business.

Notice of Financial Incentives under California Law

We offer our customers a rewards program that provides certain perks, such as rewards, promotions, and exclusive offers (the “Rewards Program”).  We may also provide other programs, such as sweepstakes, contests, or other similar promotional campaigns (collectively, the “Programs”). When you sign up for one of these Programs, we typically ask you to provide your name and contact information (such as email address and/or telephone number). Because our Programs involve the collection of personal information, they might be interpreted as a “financial incentive” program under California law. The value of your personal information to us is related to the value of the free or discounted products or Services, or other benefits that you obtain or that are provided as part of the applicable Program, less the expense related to offering those products, Services, and benefits to Program participants. You may withdraw from participating in a Program at any time by contacting us as laid out at the end of this Policy.

Disclosure of Your Personal Information

We respect the importance of privacy. Generally, we may disclose the Personal Information we collect to facilitate our communications with customers, to operate our business, to advertise or promote our Services, or with your consent.  Described below are categories of third-party recipients to whom we may disclose, or have disclosed in the preceding twelve months, each category of Personal Information listed above

We may disclose your Personal Information to third parties in the following ways:

1.   Affiliates and Acquisitions. We may disclose such Personal Information with our corporate affiliates (e.g., parent company, sister companies, subsidiaries, joint ventures, or other companies under common control) as needed to provide our products and Services and generally as necessary in the administration of our organization.

2.   Corporate Transaction. We may disclose your Personal Information in connection with a proposed or actual corporate merger, acquisition, consolidation, sale of assets, bankruptcy, insolvency or other corporate change, including at the negotiation stage. Such recipient will be bound by terms and conditions reasonably similar to those set out in this Policy.

3.   Deidentified Personal Information. We may disclose or use aggregated or de-identified data for any lawful purpose. Deidentified information is generally not considered to be Personal Information under applicable laws.

8.   Service Providers. We may disclose Personal Information to authorized third parties who perform services for us (including cloud services, data storage, sales, human resources, and marketing). Among other things, service providers may help us to administer our Site, conduct surveys, provide technical support, process payments, and assist in the fulfillment of orders. We use various reasonable and appropriate safeguards (administrative, organizational, technical, electronic, procedural and physical) to protect the Personal Information we collect and process. Our security controls are designed to maintain an appropriate level of confidentiality, integrity, and availability of your Personal Information. Nonetheless, no such measure is 100% effective; therefore, we do not guarantee that your Personal Information will be secure from theft, loss, or unauthorized access or use, and we make no representation as to the reasonableness, efficacy, or appropriateness of the measures we use to safeguard such Personal Information, nor that information about you will remain secure in all circumstances. Our Site permits you to create an account. When you do, you will be prompted to create a password. For your convenience, our Site includes functionality that allows you to remain logged in so that you do not have to re-enter your password each time you want to access your account. If you choose to remain logged in, you should be aware that anyone with access to your device will be able to access and make changes to your account and may be able to make purchases through your account. Data Retention

The time periods for which we retain your Personal Information depend on the purposes for which we use it and applicable law for the type of data and use. Dollar Tree will keep your Personal Information for as long as you are a registered subscriber or user of our Services or for the period necessary to fulfill the purposes outlined in this Policy, unless a longer retention period is required or permitted by law. The Personal Information we collect may be stored and processed in servers in the United States and/or other jurisdictions where Dollar Tree, or our service providers, have facilities.

Children’s Privacy

Our Site is not intended for or directed to children under the age of 13. Dollar Tree does not knowingly collect Personal Information from children under the age of 13 (or other relevant age of majority) without first obtaining parental consent in accordance with applicable laws. Users under the age of 13 should not submit any Personal Information to us. If we become aware that a child under the age of 13 has provided us with Personal Information, we will delete the information from our records. Dollar Tree does not knowingly sell the Personal Information of minors less than 16 years of age.
