Q: Updates to Our Global Privacy Notice

This Notice describes C.H. Robinson's current data protection policies and practices. We reserve the right to update it periodically. When we do, we will indicate in this section when it was most recently updated and why the changes were made.

This Global Privacy Notice was modified in January 2023 to include updates relevant to the California Privacy Rights Act, effective January 1, 2023.

Q: Legal Basis for Collecting and Processing Personal Information

C.H. Robinson processes personal information only where we have an appropriate lawful basis, for example when:

  • you consent;
  • the processing is necessary for our legitimate interests;
  • we must comply with applicable legal, contractual, and/or regulatory requirement; and/or
  • C.H. Robinson is a Data Processor, as a party to a contract with our customers.

We may collect and process personal information about you, some of which could be sensitive personal information, that you have provided either directly to us or indirectly from sources identified in the ‘Sources from which We may Collect Information’ section of this Notice.

C.H. Robinson collects information about you from various sources striving to only collect the minimum amount of personal information necessary to achieve the purpose of collection.

C.H. Robinson lawfully uses your personal information for a variety of purposes, but in particular to:

Q: Information We May Share

C.H. Robinson does not sell personal information nor share personal information in unexpected or unlawful ways. However, there may be instances where we share information because we are legally or contractually required to do so, or in instances where it is necessary to perform certain services and support our business functions.

The personal information C.H. Robinson may share with third party service providers is encompassed by the section of this notice titled “Categories of Personal Information We May Collect.”

Categories of third parties we may have shared the personal information we collect within the preceding 12 months:

  • regulators, governments and authorized law enforcement agencies;
  • to other third parties when allowed or required by law;
  • courts, tribunals, arbitrators or other judicial committees;
  • our professional advisors and auditors;
  • our affiliates, including trade associations and credit bureaus;

Q: Your Rights and Choices

We want to make sure that you feel in control of your personal information and to know how you can change your preferences related to the collection and use of your personal information. Therefore, we offer you certain choices about what personal information we collect from you and how we use that information.

How We Respond to Requests Related to your Personal information

C.H. Robinson will not discriminate against you for exercising rights related to your personal information. Subject to applicable laws and regulations, we promptly process, and where necessary, respond to requests related to the use and processing of personal information.

Please note that in some instances, we may need to ask you for additional information to verify your identity, especially when we receive requests from an individual acting on behalf of another as an authorized agent. In some instances, we may be obligated to limit or deny your request if we have a lawful justification for doing so, such as a legal obligation to maintain the personal information.

Q: Data Retention

Subject to applicable laws and regulations, C.H. Robinson takes steps to ensure that the personal information we collect and process about you is retained for only as long as it is necessary for the original purpose for which it was collected. After this period, it will be deleted or in some cases anonymized.

Q: Data Transfers

C.H. Robinson approaches data transfers seriously and with care, ensuring we account for applicable laws and regulations related to the transfer of data.

When we transfer your personal information outside of your home country to countries which may not offer an equivalent level of protection for personal information to the laws of your home country, for example, to the United States, we take steps that the law requires to make sure that your personal information is properly protected.

C.H. Robinson transfers and stores data in the United States. As such, we take appropriate safe-guarding measures as required by law. These measures may include:

  • data transfer agreements; and
  • standard contractual clauses in our contracts;
  • appropriate security safeguards to protect your information.

Q: Data Protection

Protection of the information you entrust to us is our priority.

To help protect the information we collect, store and process, including your personally identifiable information, we maintain administrative, technical and physical safeguards designed to secure this information against accidental, unlawful or unauthorized destruction, loss, alteration, access, disclosure, or other forms of unauthorized or unlawful processing commensurate with the risks posed by the particular type of processing, the nature of the personal data and in accordance with applicable law and applicable guidelines.

Additionally, we take steps to ensure that the personal information we collect is accurate and up to date. We retain information as long as it is necessary and relevant for our operations and in alignment with the purpose of collection, applicable laws, and internal policies. We update and test our security technology on an ongoing basis. We restrict access to your personal data and train our employees about the importance of confidentiality and maintaining the privacy and security of the information we manage.

C.H. Robinson uses cookies, pixel tags, and other technologies (“Cookies”) to automatically collect information about your interactions, such as browser type, pages viewed, links clicked, and other actions you take in connection with our websites, online ads, and email. Other third parties you chose to visit may do the same. This Cookie statement explains: (1) what a cookie is and why we use them; (2) how you can manage your cookies, and (3) what kind of cookies may be on our sites.

What are Cookies and why do we use them?

Third parties, including, but not limited to, Google Analytics, and Adobe Analytics use cookies to serve ads based on someone’s past visits to any of our websites.

Persistent and Session Cookies

Persistent Cookies are stored by web browsers on your device until they expire or until they are deleted by you. Expiration of a persistent Cookie is determined by the Cookie creator and can be based on a particular date or length of session time. This means that for the Cookie’s lifespan, its information will be transmitted to the creator’s server every time the user visits the website that it belongs to or another website configured to check for that Cookie. Persistent Cookies are also known as “tracking Cookies.”

Session Cookies are temporarily on our device and only sed by a website during your visit. This type of Cookie may store information you enter and track your activity within the website. A session Cookie is deleted after you leave the website or when the browser is closed.

How do you manage Cookies?

Global Privacy Control and Do Not Track Signals

C.H. Robinson recognizes the Global Privacy Control (“GPC”) emitted from California residents’ web browsers. GPC is a setting you can enable in your web browser to communicate your privacy preferences for not having certain information about your webpage visits collected across websites. For more details, including information on how to turn on GPC, visit https://globalprivacycontrol.org/.

C.H. Robinson does not currently act in response to Do Not Track signals. Some browsers may transmit “do not track” signals to websites with which the browser communications. Because of differences in how web browsers incorporate and activate this feature, it is not always clear whether users intend for these signals to be transmitted, or whether they are even aware of them. C.H. Robinson does not currently take action in response to these signals.
